First two kidney transplants

A team from the Liverpool International Transplant Initiative, and Royal Liverpool University Hospital carried out the first two kidney transplants at An-Najah University Hospital in Nablus, on March 26.
This is part of the cooperation under the ISN/TTS Sister Program. The first kidney transplant was for a 24-year-old man, whose kidney was donated by his brother. The operation was performed by our surgeon Dr Abdul Hammad. The second kidney transplant was performed for a 17-year-old boy, whose kidney was donated by his father. The operation was performed by surgeon Dr Sanjay Mehra and both kidneys were removed by key hole surgery â“ the first time this kind of opperation has ever been performed in the West Bank. Both patients have had a successful outcome. This achievement comes after months of preparation and coordination between the Liverpool International Transplant Initiative.
