A team from the Liverpool International Transplant Initiative, and Royal Liverpool University Hospital carried out the first two kidney transplants at An-Najah University Hospital in Nablus, on March 26.

This is part of the cooperation under the ISN/TTS Sister Program. The first kidney transplant was for a 24-year-old man, whose kidney was donated by his brother. The operation was performed by our surgeon Dr Abdul Hammad. The second kidney transplant was performed for a 17-year-old boy, whose kidney was donated by his father. The operation was performed by surgeon Dr Sanjay Mehra and both kidneys were removed by key hole surgery – the first time this kind of opperation has ever been performed in the West Bank. Both patients have had a successful outcome. This achievement comes after months of preparation and coordination between the Liverpool International Transplant Initiative.
